Ingredients
  

  • ​1 cup all-purpose flour​
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar​
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened​
  • 1/4 cup milk​
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract​

Instructions
 

  • ​Preheat the Oven:​
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.​
  • ​Prepare the Dough:​
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.​
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix well.​
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt (and cocoa powder if making chocolate wafers).​
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with milk, until a smooth dough forms.​
  • ​Shape the Cookies:​
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).​
  • Use a cookie cutter to cut out desired shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.​
  • ​Bake:​
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.​
  • ​Cool:​
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can dip half of each cooled wafer into melted chocolate and let it set before serving.
  • Store the wafers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
